2nd Assignment

What should I major in?
“Not again?” I replied annoyed by the irritable question! I don’t understand why would everyone around be more concerned about “what major will I choose?” when they can show their concerns for the global warming and terrorism instead. To give them an answer I am now trying to ponder upon my choice and reach a decision about the major I will choose.
Interest ranks high in my priority list as I believe to maintain efficiency and effectiveness in whatever I do I must enjoy that thing. Among all the majors I would enjoy learning and working with “Digital Television and Broadcasting” because I am fascinated by the advancement media industry has gone through and by the enticing and futuristic methods it uses to entertain and inform general public. While, I would also love learning “Public Policy, Management, and Politics” because I am generally more interested in political myths and trends. My ‘Facebook’ likes also give a message about my inclination towards political science. For instance, political talk shows and the conspiracy theory shows are one of the pages I always like to receive information from. Apart these two majors “Asian and International Studies” (AAIS) also greatly attracts me because it covers the field of sociology and globalization. I enjoy learning how globalization has changed things and how Asia is not just a continent anymore but an important part of the whole picture of globe. I am saying that because I usually enjoy reading books about the similar social issues “What is the What?” and “Outsiders” being just two examples
After considering my interest in different majors I think going for something I am competent enough in is also a matter of great concern because I don’t want to choose a course I like and then end up disliking it because of low grades! I used to get good grades in Liberal studies mostly, because of my good analytic and descriptive skills along with my appetite for an insight about the social issues. This gives a message that I should go for “Asia and International Studies”. One might think “Sociology” is a better choice than AAIS looking at my skills and grades but I think sociology is just too philosophical and dry for my interest and experience. On the other hand, Computer was a subject that would pull my grades down and give me a hard time. Since, “Digital Television and Broadcasting” involves a lot of computer programming and graphics knowledge I think choosing this course will not be easy for me to deal with. Hence, I should drop this course from my major choices.
Moreover, my experience and knowledge warns me against choosing any subject related to political science as major. Out of my curiosity I took an introductory course on political science last year. I enjoy learning about current political affairs but learning it in lectures includes a lot historical data and huge analysis of political system in China, which is not what interests me neither is it something that I can easily deal with as I am a non-Chinese students. Therefore, I should also drop the choice of Public Policy, Management, and Politics”’as my major.

In a nutshell, I have landed on a conclusion that I will major in “Asia and International Studies” because I will enjoy learning and working in this field and also because it can promise me a convenient and high academic result.
